Think women can’t be confident self-promoters?

Building a strong and visible personal brand is crucial as it precedes your reputation and is the first step in creating a rewarding career

It opens doors for you, generates new opportunities, and lends you greater credibility. It’s also a way to construct the right kind of footprint for yourself so that you can provide people with content that bolsters their opinion of you.

However, women tend to have a harder time speaking up about their accomplishments and abilities compared to men. This is because women often fear that they will be perceived as arrogant or conceited if they speak too highly of themselves.

A study at Montana State University confirmed that women were less likely than men to promote their achievements, even when they believed that doing so was necessary to advance their careers.

The researchers suggested that one reason for this difference in self-promotion behavior could be due to societal expectations and gender norms. Women are often socialized to be modest and humble, while men are encouraged to be more assertive and self-promoting. These gender norms can lead women to feel uncomfortable promoting themselves, as it may go against their beliefs about what is considered socially acceptable behavior.

Overall, the study highlights the importance of understanding gender differences in self-promotion and addressing the societal norms and expectations that may be holding women back from speaking up about their achievements. By recognizing and addressing these issues, we can create a more equitable and inclusive workplace where all employees feel comfortable promoting their accomplishments and advancing their careers.

Based on my experience of moving from country to country and establishing my leadership brand from ground zero in completely different regions, I learned the hard way how I had to speak out and show, not only my results, but also my added value and opinions to key executives. In my talks I shared several strategies to help women executives to stand out and project their brand out into the world confidently and effectively.

One of the key strategies I discussed was the importance of leveraging your achievements. It can be tough to showcase your accomplishments without feeling like you’re bragging, but it’s necessary for building a strong personal brand. In order to succeed, women need to strengthen their self-esteem, self-confidence, and show their boldness to stand out.

A second strategy is to help men to embrace women’s self-promoting activities as if they were their own, and not highlight them as arrogance. Addionally, men should work hard to encourage women to stand out without judgment or feeling threatened. transform difficult conversations from stumbling blocks into opportunities for growth and progress!👍

Women, instead of downplaying your successes, find ways to highlight them in a way that feels authentic and valuable to others.
